Birthday dinner at the Pizza Factory

For Gary's birthday we were able to have our first real date since Jake came! I asked our awesome neighbors if they would babysit for us, of course we waited until 7:30 so Jake would be asleep, that way I wouldn't be worrying about him the whole time. So Gary and I got to go ice skating (finally something else to do in St. George), since the rink will be closing in a couple of weeks we wanted to go. It was a lot of fun because I hadn't been in about six years. Word to the wise, don't play ice tag unless you want to have a bruise the size of a plate on your hip. ow. I definitely popped some blood vessels and it hurts to lay on but it was totally worth it! Thanks Jeff and Brenda for babysitting!

3 Months Old!

I don't know who he got his bird legs from but they're pretty cute!

He has been doing well with standing when we hold his arms and he loves it! it always makes him smile.

He still hates bath time but loves being wrapped in a warm towel.

Jake works really hard to get his arm(s) out of the swaddle and sometimes he kicks himself free when he's really mad, but i love the swaddle!

Jake is now sleeping in his own room! It has been wonderful to actually fall into a deep sleep now that i don't awake to every little noise he makes. It was fun having him next to our bed for a little while but it was definitely time to move him to his crib. We started with naps then Thursday night we left him in his crib the whole night. I was a little nervous he would be up a lot during the night but he's been doing really well. Although he still wakes to eat twice a night I get much better sleep. 

Since we no longer have the pack 'n play next to our bed i figured we'd have a lot more room but nope! We got a king size bed from my mom that was my grandma's. Not only is the bed a lot bigger than our queen but the headboard etc. is huge! It's really pretty but it sure takes up a lot of space in our not so big bedroom. Now i can roll over without kneeing Gary in the back, which I'm sure he appreciates. We were pretty excited about the bed since it's so high we really thought our cat Fatty wouldn't be able to jump on it because she could barely reach the other bed but no! Stupid cat can actually jump on the bed and sleep on us again. Dang it. Anybody want a fat cat?

10 week old Jake

I haven't been very good at blogging, mostly because i think it's a hassle and it takes forever for pictures to upload but i really need to do better, mostly for journaling purposes. Here's a little update on Jake. 

- at his 2 month checkup he weighed in at 10 lbs. 13 oz. and was 23 inches long, he gained 2 lbs. and 2 inches in a month! 

-in the past week or so he's been cooing so much! it's adorable!  i woke up yesterday morning to find  him "talking" to himself just staring at the ceiling. so content.

-he has recently started smiling a ton at new faces. he is definitely a people person and loves having new people around. every time his grandpa gardner holds him he smiles! (he must think he's funny looking) we've actually been able to make him smile by making funny sounds with our lips. he thinks it's  pretty funny. 

- he laughs a lot in his sleep (only  in his sleep) it's usually when i'm rocking him and he's kind of in and out of sleep that he laughs pretty loud. i love it! it makes me laugh every time.

- he loves his bouncer with the little toys over it. he smiles at them and just yesterday started reaching for them! 

- he loves his car seat and sleeps really well in it. (that's where he is now, he's been asleep for 2 hours)

- he loves sleeping with his arm above his head

-he is always moving his hands around all over his face and head and sucking on his fist.

-he is great on long trips because he falls asleep and doesn't wake up until we get there. 

- he still has a ton of hair but he's been changing so much it's crazy

- he loves to suck on things, especially his pacifier, he just can't keep it in his mouth! we usually have to hold it in there for him or put the blanket next to it so it can't fall out.

- he doesn't sleep through the night but he usually only wakes up twice to eat. hopefully that will come soon.

I never thought i'd get so excited about such little things but it's so fun to see them grow and learn!

Jacob's Blessing Day

February 7th we had Jake's blessing which was a really fun day. Gary has 7 siblings (all but two were there) and they all have kids so there were quite a few people there. We also had two of my brothers there and my parents grandparents and also some aunts/uncles and cousins. It was a lot of fun to have so many people at our home (but also a little stressful). The blessing went really well and we had a great day! Jake looked so cute in his little tux that we borrowed from Gary's cousin. He did amazing the whole time too, no crying and he was asleep a lot of the time. Here are a few pictures of the day.

Christmas

For Christmas this year we decided to just stay home and enjoy Christmas time as a little family since Jake was only two weeks old and it was nice having Gary home from work. We didn't do anything to exciting except see lights at the temple and around St. George, made sugar cookies (which i ate too many of causing Jake to be awake at night, i definitely won't be doing that again) and went shopping. Gary and i decided Jake would be our present this year so we didn't really have any presents to open except from our parents and Jake's presents (he got more than we did). But it was a fun Christmas and next  year will be a lot of fun with a little one year old!
